People Who Serve…
Volunteers are the heart and soul of the Café of Life. Without them we could not survive. Who are they? People just like you – concerned that in a “society of plenty” there are those who face each day without the potential fulfillment of the most basic of human needs. In essence, these volunteers “care, share and serve” their fellow man!
In 2015, our 337 volunteers donated 14,564 hours by shopping for groceries, preparing and serving meals, serving on the Board of Directors, arranging special events such as Thanksgiving and Christmas luncheons, and “lending a helping hand” to anything and everything in meeting the nutritional and supplemental needs of our clients.
How Can You Volunteer
You can become a volunteer at Café of Life by contacting us at firstname.lastname@example.org or calling (239) 495-9325 . Our coordinators welcome your inquiry and can provide a comprehensive overview of the specific activities of our many volunteers – AND – how you can join this dedicated group of enthusiastic individuals.
Current Volunteer Opportunities
The Café of Life feeds many poor and hungry people at Leitner Park from 10:00 until 11:30 a.m., Monday through Friday. In 2015 we served more than 19,516 meals. We serve from 80 to 100 clients each day, although it is not uncommon that more than 100 clients will appear on any given day. Preparing these meals can be a rewarding experience for you and a great way to meet new friends or rekindle old friendships. AND WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Volunteer to be a COOK! – Café of Life strives to serve a hot, well balanced meal as this may be the only food some enjoy on that particular day.
Volunteer to PICK UP GROCERIES or DRIVE OUR VAN! – Every day, Monday through Friday, several of the grocers in our area donate food to the Café of Life. We need drivers to assist in picking up the donated food.
We also need drivers daily to pick up clients and bring them to our serving site with a 15 passenger van.
Volunteer to ASSIST THE OUTREACH COORDINATOR – Outreach Program uses volunteers Monday – Thursday to assist the Outreach Coordinator in visiting local communities to distribute food and other supplies. This generally only takes around two hours and the volunteers have the opportunity to see areas of Bonita they wouldn’t typically go to and to interact directly with those in need.
Volunteer to ASSIST IN THE OFFICE – Volunteers help to staff the office and duties include answering the phone, clerical work, computer input and assisting those with walk-in donations.
Volunteer to be a SERVER! – Our servers come to the area at 9:45 a.m. and prepare the tables for the lunch meal.
Volunteer for COMPUTER DATA ENTRY and RECEPTIONIST/OFFICE WORK/ – Training is Available.
Volunteer for RECEPTIONIST/DATA ENTRY – Receive, organize and store donations.
Outreach Volunteer – Go with our outreach worker to the migrant camps and poor neighborhoods to deliver pantry food, and clothing.
